The Electones are a combination of two norwegian musical anomalies who between them play about 15 different instruments ( although they have since been joined by the luscious rita on vocals) .their sound is ethereal,prog(!) And leftfield which has very little in common with much of todays music scene although a "soupcon" of sigur ros ,stereolab, tortoise or squarepusher may be in there somewhere. Either way they have come up with a collection of material on inertia which has some of the most intense and soulful melody we have heard in a long time. The first offering of their unique sound is what you have here - 'Summercloud'.
From the moment the needle touches the record, the beats and vocals will suggest that this will be a truly captivating piece of music. Distorted synths, haunting bells and driving drums lead the way into a beautifully ethereal journey- music that actually effects you physiologically!
"Johnie Red" is another type of journey. This time the electones take us into southern hicksville with a double bass driven hip hop headnodder with added touches of harmonica and steel guitar all played by the boys.
The 12" finishes with a remix from new chaps on the block, Be Caesar. Messing around with the beats and vocals, these guys have come up with a dancefloor smash! Dirty brazillian funk, would be the best way to describe it. Vocals float over a groove which gets funkier and dirtier, driven along with bass stabs that will stretch the woofers on your boom box. This is one for the party people amongst us. Full on samba funk. Watch this tear up dancefloors up and down the country…..
